Tips for a trouble-free move:
• Don't go paying too much for your boxes: they can be got for free at some supermarkets,
or for cheap unused or almost new ones I recommend nipping over to B Holland & Sons, 1-4
Redfern St, off Bankhall St, Bootle. 0151 933 3322. They also sell tape and wrapping
materials such as bubblewrap.
• Make sure not to overfill boxes - try to keep the tops flat and taped down. Ensure that the
bottoms are securely taped. Don't make them too heavy: remember - cushions and pillows
in the bigger boxes, books and dishes in the small ones! It may seem obvious, but it's
surprising how many people get it the other way around! Carefully wrap fragile items.
• Plastic bags: ideal for clothes, but please don't buy the cheapest ones. They're like tissue
paper and tend to fall apart, so it's worth paying a little extra for sturdy ones.
• If you're unfamiliar with your destination, do get really good instructions as to how to find
your exact location. Not usually a problem, but it can help to speed things up.
• The loading area of the van is 3.3m (11ft) long, 1.8m (6ft) wide, 1.9m (6ft) high, and the
payload is 1250kg.
• Room for two passengers, but I can't stow anybody in the back, for H&S reasons. Bring
your music or radio and earbuds with you on a long trip.
• I always advise taking a few snaps of your digs/room as you leave it, and also of your new
place when you arrive, in the unlikely event of any dispute further down the line.
• Oh, and please have payment ready, rather than having to go looking for a cash machine!
